Hey, we’ve created a calendar for burlesque-esque things going on in Baltimore. As we find out about things going on, we’ll add them to the list and keep it up to date. You should be able to see the link over there on the right.

Baltimore’s scene is really taking off, and well, if you like Dr. Sketchy’s, you’ll love the various other burlesque things going on around Baltimore as well.
And no, no one’s paying us for any of this stuff. We’re usually just at all of them and we need more folks to get drunk with. Tomorrow I’ll see if I can put up a permanent calendar of upcoming stuff, but for now, here’s a pretty big one coming up on Friday.

I’m probably just ignorant, but this is the first time I’ve heard of the Hustler club doing anything Burlesque oriented…in any case, Trixie Little and Evil Hate Monkey are amazing, as are Twig & Berries, Miss Astrid, and Paco, who modeled for us in December. We’ve not seen the other performers, I THINK, but if they’re sharing a billing with those six, well, that pretty much says all you need to know right there.
Here’s a link to Trixie and Monkey’s calendar.
Here’s some of the ad copy as well (though not all of it)…
Miss D’Lish is a two-time Miss Exotic World and MAJOR influence on the entire neo-burlesque movement…she is flying in from California WITH her champagne glass to make something “elegant” happen in Baltimore!
TRIXIE & MONKEY will make sexy fun and fun sexy.
MISS ASTRID will use her one good eye to see your soul.
CATHERINE D’LISH will make you seriously thirsty.
DR. LUCKY will make you earn it.
PEEKABOO POINTE will purr and pounce.
ALBERT CABABRA will read your dirty mind.
TWIG & BERRIES will defy gravity and logic.
DJ MOMO TARO will make you shake it until it all falls off.
GAL FRIDAY will dance until your satisfied.
PACO will make everything stick together…or at least make it sticky.
For everyone: $20 General Admission Tickets Available at Door Only
(First come first serve. The club is HUGE. Most seating on the first floor will be reserved for tables, but there is a sexy second floor with tables and a balcony that looks down over the main stage)
After that, there’s a bunch more copy about how you can spend a bazillion trillion dollars on going gangster and getting bottle service, rail seatings, etc….check the link if you got that much cash.
Alexis and I will definitely be there in any case, and maybe Bill, Jeff, and others, so if your Friday is looking weak, check it out.

Hope you’ve not forgotten! If that flyer doesn’t make you want to be there with a sharpened pencil (or paint brush) ((or markers)) (((or embroidering kit))) then I just don’t know what to say. Alexis and I rolled in from NYC last night around one in the morning, having spent the weekend at Sketchycon with Molly Crabapple, John Leavitt, and the Sketchy branches of dozens of other cities around the world. We’re about as fired up as we can get.
By the way, we’ve added our Twitter feed over in the column on the right, so if you want up-to-the-second updates of when the next Sketchy’s is, other interesting things going on in Baltimore (Trixie Little and Evil Hate Monkey are at the Hustler Club this Friday…I haven’t found the details yet, but I’ll look them up for you), how many screwdrivers Alexis drank, or general public announcements like OH MY GOD SWINE FLU IS TOTALLY THE NEW BLACK, well, that’s where all that stuff will be.
What else? Oh, I hope you went to Glitterama.
Anyways…tonight, 7 o’clock, ONE TIME ONLY ON AN APRIL 27TH, **SABLE SIN CYR!!** At Dionysus, 8 Preston St, prizes from Atomic Books, Artist & Craftsman Supply, and Baby Tattoo Books! Bring your drawy stuff.

That’s easily my favorite photo.
Gazillions of thanks to Little Luna (Happy belated birthday!), who without, we would have all been very, very bored, and, well, things would have been somewhat awkward. Thanks to Lynn, Derrick, Andrew, and everyone else at Dionysus too for letting us draw pretty Luna in their dining room and for keeping our drinks filled (and getting lit with Alexis and I lit later on that evening after we finished putting everything back together).
Thanks to Jeff for the photos and Bill for holding down the door. Tons and tons of thanks to our sponsors Atomic Books, Artist & Craftsman Supply, and Baby Tattoo Books. By the way, Don from Artist & Craftsman gave away a ton of free art supplies . . . in addition the two art piles (water colors, canvases, etc) give away as prizes for a contest.
More photos, yes?
The next two of Little Luna in her Eve costume crack me up.

This next one was for the Atomic Books sponsored contest, which was best incorporation of the Mini-Munny in your drawing, with the prize being the Mini-Munny.

The above one cracked me up…if you can’t read the text, the top caption says, “I wonder what sort of accessory comes with Full-Size Luna?” and the bottom one says, “I wonder what sort of accessory comes with Full-Size Munny?”

The next contest was for Symptomatica by Ragnar, from Baby Tattoo books.

Watch out, Vanna.
Back to Luna…

The contest was a new one….write the most fucked up sentence you can think of on a card, then pass it to the person on your left who then has to try and incorporate into their drawing.
There were some seriously demented sentences.

Next session is this Monday, April 27th, at 7 with Sable Sin Cyr.

Alexis and I are actually in NYC this weekend for a Dr. Sketchy’s convention, so, if the train explodes or Molly gets us all arrested, Bill and Jeff may have to run the shebang themselves, which could be all sorts an interesting adventure, but hopefully no trains will explode and since Alexis and I are quite good at evaporating after bar fights, there’s probably nothing to worry about.
Probably.
By the way, we’re on Twitter now.

If you missed when she modelled for us last year, there’s a big ol’ empty hole in your life. Don’t believe me? Check out the blog post.

While I’d prefer to post the sketches with the photos in one big recap post, it seems kinda wrong to just leave these awesome drawings sitting unseen in our inbox any longer.
Here’s a page full of quick (1-2 minute) sketches from David Newbold:

Here’s a few of Brian Dugan’s quick sketches:

Brian captured Little Luna’s pixie-like beauty in his 10-minute drawings:

And, for his entry in the two-panel contest, Kurt Aspland was obviously also inspired by it:
David Newbold was inspired to create a two-panel story of another sort…
…and was one of the winners of a brand new wood panel and watercolor set from Artist & Craftsman Supply.
He and the other talented winner may have also gotten a small canvas each, actually. I honestly don’t remember now, because Don, our very generous sponsor at A&C, was giving away a shit-ton of free stuff –free (22″ x 30″, maybe?) sheets of Fabriano paper, some smaller sheets of tinted paper… Seriously, folks must have gotten the cover fee back in free art supplies. If you were one of those lucky artists to get in on this, be sure to stop by the store on North Ave. and Howard St. to thank him.
Our next contest was to incorporate mini-Munny into your drawing of Little Luna. The prize, of course, was a mini-Munny from Atomic Books in Hampden (reminder: you have less than two weeks to see their Vinylmore 2: Tiny Town show, right in the store.)
David’s entry for this contest:

And here’s Kurt’s:

And Brian’s (like David’s, imagining mini-Munny and Luna in a King Kong situation):

Leah Bloomfield took home the Munny with her Gulliver’s Travels-inspired drawing:

Our last contest was a bit of an experiment for us. Before the last break, I first showed off our very awesome prize from our newest sponsor, Baby Tattoo Books, which was a copy of Ragnar’s Symptomatica. We then passed out blank cards to the audience and asked them to write a single, random sentence on their card during the break. At the end of the break, we asked everyone to pass their card to the person on their left, then announced the contest: incorporate the sentence given to you into your drawing.
As if we needed any confirmation that our audience is made up of seriously twisted (but talented!) individuals…some of the things people came up with were pretty awesomely bizarre or just straight up wrong. Hopefully, we’ll get more of those to share here, but in the meantime, here’s Brian’s entry:

And here’s a photo (one of the few we have at the moment) of the winner with his entry and his prize:
I think the sentence was something like, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy ketchup.”
And that’s all for now!
Well, almost. Here’s one more–Leah Bloomfield created this lovely finished illustration after the session, using her winning Munny sketch as a reference:

Special thanks to David, Brian, Kurt, and Leah for sharing their fantastic sketches with us! If you have sketches from any of our sessions that you’d like us to include in our blog, send them here.
And, of course, a huuuge thanks to our lovely muse, Little Luna!
Check back in a few days for the photos from this session and details on our next session on April 27.

It talks about how she got started, her first graphic novel, and probably Dr. Sketchy’s in Part Three.
Here’s the first two parts.
I’ll put up a link to Part Three when it comes out. Good reading, especially if you’re interested in making a living off your art.
