Interested in being a model?

Dr. Sketchy’s, the cabaret life-drawing event that’s been a hit from New York to New Zealand, now has a Charm City chapter. Be the star of the show!

We’re looking for burlesque performers, dancers, drag queens, roller girls, circus acts, body builders, or any other talented and visually interesting individuals with awesome costumes and the ability to hold interesting poses for up to 20 minutes.

Dr. Sketchy’s is currently held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at the Windup Space (at the corner of North and Charles) from 7 pm to 10 pm. We would need to have the model arrive 30 minutes early for each session; in exchange for providing the audience with inspiration during the three-hour session, the model will be paid $75 *plus tips*.

Things to know:

Interesting costumes are an absolute must. We can’t stress this enough. If you haven’t already done so, please take a look at our blog to see what our models have done before. Previous modeling experience is wonderful, but certainly not necessary. If you don’t/can’t show us that you qualify in this area, it’s unlikely you’ll get a response.

No nudity will be involved. While we ask that the model pose in an interesting costume that shows the figure, outfits should be no more revealing than pasties and a g-string . Outfits should lean in the “as much as I can get away with” direction for at least 2/3 of the session. We encourage our models to use two or three costumes per session.

–Pillows will be provided, but we encourage the model to bring any props that may complement his/her costume.

–If you have a photo that we can use in creation of a flier for your session, that’s great, but we will need to have direct contact with the photographer in order to use the photo. Taking your word for it that it’s okay isn’t enough.

–We more or less follow the original branch’s schedule (the breaks are ~5 minutes with the exception of the longer break in the middle):

10 1-minute poses and 5 2-minute poses
break
4 5-minute poses
break
2 10-minute poses
break
20 minute pose
longer break (~10-15 minutes)
2 20-minute poses with breaks in between

–Models must be comfortable having their photos and likenesses used in Dr. Sketchy’s advertising and projects.

–You might be asked to judge one of the contests. Don’t worry, that’s one of the fun parts. :)

–Attendees and models all need to be 18  or older—and, obviously, 21 or older to drink.

To get a better idea of what Dr. Sketchy’s is all about, click the link to the blog at the left and scroll through the older entries about previous sessions. Please visit the original NYC Sketchy’s site at http://www.drsketchys.com, where you’ll find photos from past sessions as well as links to other branches. We’re also on MySpace and Facebook, plus check out Metromix’s photo gallery from our July, 2008 session and TuffNerd Production’s video from our February 9, 2009 session.

–If , after you’ve read this page from top to bottom and looked through our blog to see what we’re about, and you’re still interested in modeling, please email Alexis and Aaron  with detailed information on your experience and photos of yourself  in costumes  suitable for Dr. Sketchy’s and/or of your past performances (a link to photos is fine too).

Please do not attempt to contact us about modeling through the comments sections on this website–we will only respond to detailed inquiries that include (or link to) appropriate photos and are sent to us via email.

  1. I am interested in modeling…could you please send me any further information. I currently model at Harford Community College for both credit and non-credit classes. I have also been told that I’m really good at it;) I have a BFA in Acting so I can easily portray an emotion without speaking. I also have quite a costume collection. Hope to hear from you soon.

  2. I am interested in modeling. I’m a former exotic dancer with LOTS of costumes… school girl, military, sexy computer nerd, whatever, I’ve got it! Also, a few nice dresses and corsets, cause, you know, every girl needs those. I’m very comfortable with bearing a little skin. I have also modeled for an old friend and artist Peter Excho (pexcho.com) so I’m fine with standing still. Let me know if you need a new girl! Thanks!
